Stag Weekend Bullfighting
Bullfighting in Madrid's bull-ring at Las Ventas
is the biggest in the world and, apart from being a beautiful
building, is a great place to watch a quintessentially Spanish
sport.
Opposition to the sport is
considered an insult to many Spaniards who regard it as an
integral part of their culture. Whatever you want to call
it, be it cruel, artistic or simply a show, bull-fighting
gets the adrenaline flowing. Those of you who have been to
a capea
on a stag weekend and experienced being faced by a rampant
calf will have a better idea of what faces a matador.
A bullfight usually has six
bulls on the card, with three teams facing them in turn in
six individual fights. The opening stages of each encounter
between the matador and his team are designed to weaken the
bull, and then at the end the matador is left one to one with
the bull for the kill.
Although the odds
are stacked heavily in favour of the matador, bulls do occasionally
win a short reprieve by putting their opponents out of action.
The Spanish bull-fighting
event of the year is San Isidro, which normally runs through
the month of May into the first week of June. However, bull-fighting
takes place most Sundays between March and October. Get your
stag group together for a quick peak of this sport on a Sunday
afternoon before you fly out. The event normally starts between
5pm and 6pm finishing two hours later, so careful planning
of your flights is necessary for your stag weekend if you
want to see this spectacle.
Staghen can pre-order
your tickets and have them delivered to your hotel to avoid
disappointment during stag weekend. Bull fighting in Spain
is the only place in Europe you can see such an event, so
don't miss it!
If bull-fighting isn't your cup of tea, why not watch a football match, either Real Madrid or Atletico are the two big Madrid teams.
